Winter Activities In Fernie
An annual 30 feet of snow and often with powder deep enough to rise above your waist—the skiing and snowboarding in Fernie are just outside your room at The Qanuk lodge. And because you’re so close, you can ski to the Deer Lift for a morning of skiing, return to the full kitchen in the lodge for lunch, then ski back to the lift for an afternoon of sweeping through the alpine bowls. Chances are you’ll be a bit beat from that much skiing, so you’ll probably want to relax a spell in your private hot tub before heading into Fernie for dinner, drinks, and a touch of the local nightlife.

Extended Ski Season
Believe it or not, the temperatures of the Lizard Range average a few degrees lower than the Alps in Europe, which helps to extend the skiing season into the month of April. Our Fernie resort and lodge also boast the tallest elevation—2,133 meters—in the Canadian Rockies. With over 142 earmarked runs and more than 2,500 acres devoted to skiing, you could spend all week on the slopes and never cross the same path twice.
Besides the extensive number of runs and trails, you can swish and swoosh your way across five expansive alpine bowls and connect to any number of moderate, difficult, and expert runs along your way. Each bowl offers its own adventure, scenery, and challenges, so we recommend you book a stay that gives you enough time to explore them all. There’s even a lower bowl with nothing but easy runs for kids and beginners. With 10 chairlifts—mixed between quad, triple, and surface—rarely will you have to wait in line to reach the summit of the slope you want.
